“Muse” by Lago (on Foundation)

Muse” was created by Lago on June 29, 2021, at 19:23 in Spain. Because of the emotional authenticity behind its creation, it encapsulates a portion of the astrological energy of that point in time in an incredibly impactful way.

“Muse” is a wonderful title as it braids the Cancerian, Mercurial, and Sagittarian themes perfectly. As a verb, its synonyms are to brood and feel (lunar qualities), to consider and contemplate (Mercurial qualities). As a noun, it is the goddess (divinity — Jupiter) that inspires (Sagittarian quality).

There was a lot of love, meaning, and faith put into this composition.

You are probably aware of your sun sign. It’s one of the first symbols astrologers look to when determining identities and personality tendencies.

Artworks have sun signs as well! The sun’s sign and placement in any given artwork speak to the piece’s primary subject matter and spirit. The sun was in Cancer when “Muse” was created (at 8º Cancer, to be precise), placed in the seventh house (Placidus system).

The sun in Cancer is an indication of highlighting sensitivity, intuition, and receptivity (Cancer is a water sign, ruled by the moon). The sun in the seventh house is an indication of highlighting close partnership as well (romantic, business, best friend, or a combination). Interestingly, the description clearly honours a meaningful feminine figure. Our eyes are drawn to the mostly white side-profile that stretches across the entire canvas. Perhaps this feature was inspired by the same feminine figure.

The moon in Pisces (a water sign, ruled by Jupiter) symbolizes a gentle reflection and harmony. Its co-presence with Jupiter and Neptune (both in Pisces as well) speaks to the confidence and generosity of the idealistic character reflected upon.

It’s important to look at the most angular planet in an astrology chart. “Angularity” refers to the four most extreme positions of the sky: directly above and below, and directly rising and setting.

Mercury was on the cusp of the seventh house, directly setting, furthering the strength of the relationship theme and suggesting that this piece was motivated by a Mercurial subject — someone social and chatty perhaps, someone who loves ideas, or maybe just the concept of muses and musing in general.

There is a strong mystical element to this piece. The rising sign is another key feature to observe in astrology — this is the zodiac sign that is on the horizon at any given moment. “Muse” has Sagittarius rising, which is a fire sign ruled by Jupiter. It has an optimistic, magical, and passionate energy. The lively and bright reds, pinks, and whites invigorate the deep watery blues. The symbol of Sagittarius is the centaur, a symbol of wisdom, aiming his arrow to the sky. Could the white flecks on the black sections be a subtle reference to the mystery of the celestial heavens?
